Singapore, 21 March 2012 – To celebrate World Water Day 2012, SingPost will be issuing a commemorative stamp issue, Reservoirs of Singapore, in 10 designs featuring reservoirs of the country’s drinking water supply.

Observed every year on 22 March, the World Water Day, an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), aims to raise global awareness on the importance of water and advocates for the sustainable management of water resources.

Stamps Commemorating World Water Day 2012

The five reservoirs illustrated on the 1st Local stamps are the Jurong Lake, Punggol Reservoir, Lower Seletar Reservoir, Serangoon Reservoir and Marina Reservoir; and on the 50-cents stamp, Lower Peirce Reservoir, MacRitchie Reservoir, Bedok Reservoir, Pandan Reservoir and Upper Seletar Reservoir.

Besides this set of 10 stamps worth S$3.80, other stamp products of this issue include a set of two Pre-cancelled First Day Covers affixed with stamps (S$5.35) and the Presentation Pack (S$5.65). All first day covers will be cancelled with the Reservoirs of Singapore datestamp.

World Water Day 2012 Activities

• Limited edition art prints of the Reservoirs of Singapore stamp issue on sale

In conjunction with the World Water Day celebrations on 24 March 2012, SingPost will specially issue a set of limited edition art prints of the Reservoirs of Singapore stamp issue priced at S$29.90. SODA members will enjoy a discounted price of S$25. This limited edition art prints will only be available on sale on 24 March 2012 at SingPost booth at the Marina Barrage. • Mini-stamp exhibition

There will be a mini-stamp exhibition showcasing stamps and postcards relating to the theme, water - our precious resource at the Marina Barrage. The Reservoirs of Singapore stamp issue will also be on display.

Additionally, there will be an autograph session with the designer of the Reservoirs of Singapore stamp issue, Don Low.

Don is a fulltime illustrator for books, magazines and advertising agencies and his specialties include character design, animation designs, creating storyboards, and comics. His favourite traditional media includes watercolor, pen & ink, pencil and acrylics. He works digitally with all Adobe programs, Corel Painter and Autodesk Maya, specialising in 3D modelling, texture painting and CG lighting. He hopes to publish his comic books and work full time on his animated film. He is also a member of the Urban Sketchers, a local sketching group.

Alone, depressed and had enough of your emotional relationship with things like video games and ice-cream?

It’s no fun being single unless you’re distilled malt.

Coupled with Singapore’s current all-time low fertility rate at 8.5 (that’s birth per 1,000 citizens mind you), there’s a demand for you to go out there and make some babies.

But before you start googling for awesome kid names, you need to be with someone; it kind of works that way.

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, here are some sure-fire tips to find and/or get on the official status with that partner of your choosing.

Online to offline

As they say, there are many fishes in the sea, and with 8 billion users on Facebook and 300 million on Twitter, that’s a lot of aquatic, cold-blooded creatures. Look at your Facebook chat or Twitter thread, is there someone that you’ve been constantly having a conversation with? Now’s the time to make the move; lest you have to take a flight then don’t bother.

But before you poke them, spruce up your profile. First, publish your gender, it really helps trying to figure out if you are a male, female, or a robot. Then change your profile picture to something more personal that speak of your character and not a picture of your beloved pet, your vehicle, or your favourite botany as no one dates those.

Happiness from the bottom of a glass

Your advances online made you feel worse than Lindsey Lohan (whose Tweets rarely gets replied in the celebrity circle these day)? Poor thing. Tell you what; raise the bar of your game, at well, a bar. Brush off those who lack inebriated (make drunk; intoxicate) wisdom when they say you can’t find happiness after downing a keg. Just like there’s a place for everyone in this world, yours is at a watering hole. It all depends on what you are looking for.

It's the kind of dress you would expect to find on the catwalk at Couture Week (designing, making, and selling highly fashionable, usually custom-made clothing for women).

But the stunning red strapless creation made from 1,725 flowers is the result of a collaboration between an award-winning florist - and supermarket chain Asda.

The Valentine's Day-themed gown took 170 hours to make and weighs just under two stone.

The petals from 1,000 of Naomi red roses cover the entire body, running down to the floor and the entire look was completed with a pair of rose petal covered stiletto shoes.

It was designed by 23-year-old Joe Massie, three-time winner of the RHS Chelsea Young Florist of the Year award, to help remind and inspire the nation’s men and women to treat their loved one this Valentine’s Day with gorgeous flowers.

The dress was inspired by the 110lbs Stephane Rolland masterpiece modelled by Yasmin Le Bon at Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, bringing couture to the flower world.

The sexy split-legged design, showcases a selection of Asda’s exquisite Valentine’s Day flower range.

Fifteen exquisite Carmen roses and 200 chrysanthemums, decorated with gold-leaf, adorn the hip and skirt of the dress.

Petals from 150 Purple Power roses, 75 gerberas and 300 carnations have been used on the hem giving the gown the perfect finish.

The entire look was completed with a pair of rose petal covered stiletto shoes.

Massie is renowned for his artistic designs, and Asda’s commission is his largest and most challenging creation yet.

He said: 'Creating this dress was a big challenge, and incredible experience. I wanted to embody everything a romantic bouquet of Valentine’s Day flowers should be – classic, elegant and with a sexy twist.

'I’m so proud of what we have achieved with Asda’s stunning flower range. I hope it inspires people to treat their loved ones with an extra special bunch of flowers this Valentine’s Day.'
