NEW YORK- Women are at greater risk of depression and illness because they get half as much exercise as men, researchers have found.

Women get an average of just 18 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise a day, compared to 30 minutes for men, resulting in greater odds of developing "metabolic syndrome".

Metabolic syndrome is a name for a group of conditions - including high cholesterol, high blood pressure and extra weight around the middle part of the body - which occur together and increase the risk of coronary disease, stroke, and Type 2 diabetes.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the researchers in the United States initially were interested in the correlation between physical activity, depression and metabolic syndrome, and ended up finding a gender difference.

The study, now online in the journal Preventive Medicine, was conducted at Oregon State University by Dr Paul Loprinzi and professor of social psychology of physical activity Bradley Cardinal.

Dr Loprinzi is now an assistant professor of exercise science at Bellarmine University. He conducted the research when he was a student in Cardinal's lab at OSU.

"The results indicate that regular physical activity participation was associated with positive health outcomes for both men and women; however, there was a greater strength of association for women," Dr Loprinzi said.

Looking at more than 1,000 men and women from a nationally represented sample, the researchers found that women were getting only about 18 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise daily, compared to men who, on average, were getting 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise daily.

Some downright weird ideas for women who spend their income on high-heeled shoes. A solution for them could be implanted directly the heels into their heels.

Although currently only done in Photoshop, those who say they have designed this kind of operations are not impossible and that the future will find women daring to try such implants.

Imagine if women were born with heeled feet. The hassle of going out and buying shoes would never occur, and we would probably save bagfuls of money.

Julie Rrap has replaced the natural environment with design in this picture of high heels. This is her most well known piece of work, as has won the Hermannâ‘s Art Award.

Jessie J ditches shoes mid-way through BGT performance.

As she began her performance on Britain’s Got Talent Jessie J stood tall in a pair of high black heels. But perhaps the height got the better of her as midway through her set the singer,23, decided to ditch her shoes.

It is not clear if the heels were uncomfortable or whether the removal of her footwear was part of her set but Jessie continued her act barefoot.

But even when she had ditched the shoes she still showed off a pair of perfect pins and tip toed around.
